Neha Maheshwri Bhagat (BOMBAY TIMES; October 15, 2015)

Dimpy Ganguly, who married Rahul Mahajan on a reality show in 2010 and divorced him four years later, is set to begin a new chapter in her life with her Dubai-based structural engineer beau Rohit Roy. She will tie the knot with him on November 27. “The roka will happen in the first week of November,“ says Dimpy. Life has come a full circle for her as Rohit and she happen to be each other's school crush. She says, “We were from different schools and would meet only during fests, but we could never talk about our feelings for each other. And then, I moved on. Strangely, I bumped into him in Dubai in 2013, almost a decade later, and that's when we confessed our feelings to each other. I couldn't believe that the guy who I crushed on, liked me too. The innocent school charm brought us closer, apart from the fact that we belonged to Kolkata. After I moved out of the city, my parents bought a new house which turned out to be just a few kilometres away from Rohit's house. It was as if destiny was trying to bring us together.“

“He was there when I was going through a difficult time during my divorce proceedings. So, when he proposed to me with a commitment ring on October 12, I did not hesitate one bit before accepting it. He has put up with me when I was in the worst phase of my life,“ she adds.

Both Rahul and Rohit know each other and have spoken on various occasions. How did Rohit react to her crying inside the Bigg Boss house last year when she saw Rahul, who entered the show, for a few hours? “Rohit could sense what I was going through. It was a hostile environment and Rahul was a familiar face. More than it being a weak moment, I would say I was overwhelmed,“ she reveals. Ask her if she will invite Rahul for the wedding and she replies, “I never thought about that, but now that you ask, why not? I believe in appreciating good things in a person and relationship. We were two different people trying too hard to make the marriage work, but it fell apart. Neither of us was at fault.“

Dimpy will be shuttling between Dubai and India post marriage. Is she looking to do more TV shows? “Yes, of course. I won't be taking a break till I become a mother. I would love to become one soon,“ she signs off.

Guddu Ki Gun’s publicity delayed as makers await censor nod to release promo on TV

Sonali Joshi Pitale (MID-DAY; October 15, 2015)

The Censor Board may have granted an ‘A’ certificate to Kunal Kemmu-starrer Guddu Ki Gun with a few cuts here and there, but the makers of the upcoming sex comedy are finding it tough to kickstart their promotional campaign. The risqué promo is yet to reach television viewers — the target audience for filmmakers.

Shantanu Ray, co-director of the film, says, “It is an adult comedy minus vulgarity and abusive dialogues. However, the theme itself made it difficult for us to secure the Censor Board’s approval. They recommended a few ways of presenting the promo on TV. The small screen is the best medium to reach a wider audience. When larger viewers are not aware of a film, how do we begin our publicity campaign?"

The film is slated to hit theatres by the month-end and a mellowed-down version of the promo will air on TV this weekend. “Initially, we submitted 12 promos, all of which were rejected. Then we came up with nine toned-down versions, but they too met with the same fate. They recently approved three promos that were so tame they barely reflect the theme of Guddu Ki Gun,” rues Ray.

The co-director says he understands the certification was a tough call on the Board’s part, but is worried that the promo issue might put the film’s prospects in peril. “We could retain only the comical element in the TV promos, which will air in a few days. We will have just about 10 days to market the film,” he adds.

Shilpa Shetty to launch her book on healthy diets called The Great Indian Diet

Upala KBR (DNA; October 15, 2015)

Shilpa Shetty Kundra has co-authored a book titled The Great Indian Diet with Luke Coutinho, who has also authored Eat Smart, Move More, Sleep Right. The Great Indian Diet tells us how nutritious your locally grown and sourced ingredients are, tailoring the perfect diet and touches upon various food categories that burn fat in the process amongst other health-related issues. Shilpa and Luke hope to shed light on several taboos associated with food, encourage the consumption of wholesome Indian food and look good without having to starve.

The book stays true to our Indian roots and will also include details of diet and fitness principles that Shilpa follows in her day to day routine.

Shilpa says, “I live by the great Indian diet and it will open readers’ eyes as to why Indian food is the best and most nutritious in the world. My aim with the book is to shun fad diets and food taboos. When we have everything here in India, why look outside for answers? The book will be launched on World Nutrition Day and I hope to encourage a healthier, fitter India.”

What was the idea behind the book? “Everyone is looking to get fit and healthy but since there’s too much information on the net (a lot that you shouldn’t go with) I decided to write this book with a nutritionist. For a healthier life, a simpler approach, not having to look for answers or foods outside the country and without having to burn a hole in you’re pocket. Over the last three years, my friends and my husband Raj encouraged me to write. They watched me experimenting with diets on people who needed help and saw how it changed their lives and appearance. Raj felt maybe people would take what I have to say seriously, especially in the health and fitness segment, as I “practice” what I preach. My inspiration would have to be my grandmother who made me fall in love with Indian cooking with her skills (who I’ve dedicated my book to) and my mom who always encouraged us to eat ghee and a wholesome Indian diet that is not overcooked. She taught me to value what we have in our country, as it suits us genetically too.”

Sharman Joshi stars alongside Stephen Baldwin in Hollywood film The Journalist

Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 15, 2015)

Sharman Joshi, who played Rekha's dutiful grandson in Super Nani, will be now seen in a Hollywood film, The Journalist. Based on the Graham Staines murder case, the film has Sharman playing an investigative journalist. Hollywood actor Stephen Baldwin plays Graham, the Australian missionary, who, along with his two sons, Philip and Timothy, was burnt to death by rioters in Odisha in 1999.

"The story interested me because of its dramatic theme. It's one of the most challenging characters I have played. It was a 75-day schedule, which we shot in parts, beginning January," says Sharman, who wrapped up the film last month. "My character is fictionalised but it's really interesting."

Directed by debutant Aneesh Daniel, The Journalist, has been shot near Hyderabad. The incident happened in the Monoharpur village of Odisha. "But we decided to shoot the film on the outskirts of Hyderabad since Aneesh is based here," Sharman said. "We recreated the village and also shot certain portions in Visakhapatnam's Araku Valley and some in Baripada, at the real missionary school that was run by Graham Staines," he adds.

Did preparing for the part involve a lot of research, since the film is inspired by real life events? "I have a few journalist friends so I have some insight into their lives. I didn't have to do much. The script was so well-written that I hardly had to do any research of my own," he reveals, adding, "There is much to learn from the film about the way our society functions, the way we want India to progress and whether it's the right way forward."

Sharman is all praises for his costar Stephen, who has been a part of some popular Hollywood films like The Usual Suspects and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, saying that he admires the 49-year-old actor's work. "It wasn't really a Hollywood experience, as, except a few actors, the entire cast and crew was Indian. But it was fantastic working with Stephen."

Smita Patil's biography by Maithili Rao will be launched on late actress's 60th birthday

Maithili Rao's biography on Smita Patil will be launched on the late actress's 60th birthday, on Oct 17. Mirror presents exclusive excerpts
MUMBAI MIRROR (October 15, 2015)

Anita's favourite term for her sister is: free bird. A free spirit. This free-spirited attitude was innate to her right from childhood to the time she became an actor and then a star. Smita wanted to be at the wheel, drive all the time. She'd tell the driver, tum peechhe baitho. She was also very impatient. If somebody misbehaved on the road, did not follow the rules, she'd give them the choicest gaalis.

Anita who characterizes herself as being an obedient child marvels at how Smita had an inborn sense of adventure. Smita had this great craving to drive a jhonga - the army jeep. She had a friend, Dilshad (she was one of the ADs on Attenborough's Gandhi), who was just as crazy. 'I don't know how the hell they got hold of a jhonga. They drove all the way from Delhi to Bombay in those days! It was scary. I told Smi: think of your face. What'll happen to your career if anything happens to your face! She didn't give a damn. What'll happen, she'd say without a care. Chambal was not safe at that time.

Her only condition was: Don't tell Maa. And my condition was, she had to call every night. It had to be on a landline of course. It did not strike her even once what'd happen to her career if anything went wrong. Until she reached Bombay, my heart was in my mouth.' Anita adds: The girls wore turbans, pants and shirts, as if that was protection enough.

Smita's first car was a small Fiat, a two-seater according to Hitendra Ghosh. She dragged him home and wanted him to ride with her when she drove. He was a bit scared, he confesses.

He told her, 'You are driving in Tardeo and what if you go and dash into something?' But drive with her he had to. Friends couldn't be let off so easily. This desire to drive extended to bikes too. Smita graduated from bicycle to scooter in Pune, as most Pune girls did. She wanted to drive a big motorbike. And she pestered Hitu to somehow help her do this. He had become part of the family, and when they were staying on Forjett Street, their top-floor flat had a room to the side as soon as you entered.

Smita's father was not a minister anymore and the Patils were often out of Bombay, on their social work. Though Hitu had PG digs nearby in Tardeo, it was an unwritten rule that he would come and stay at the Patil house in the parents' absence. Smita badgered Hitu to get her to ride a big bike. He realized that Aladin, a sound engineer, lived in the same building as Smita. Aladin had two sons and they had a bike. Hitu approached them, and asked if they could teach Smita. They readily agreed and taught Smita in a small Tardeo lane. Later, on some other film unit, a lot of bikes were brought for the shoot. Smita asked the stuntman to teach her to ride a bike properly.

And he obliged. Ever since, she rode a bike whenever she could. It is something Shabana speaks of with awe: when they were together shooting for Mandi, Shabana learnt that the tomboy who played volleyball with the boys could also ride a bike. Difficult to imagine the traditional Smita we see in handloom saris as a biker girl.

The actor, who plays a superhero, has been rehearsing with the 'Mad Max' villian Nathan Jones.
Avinash Lohana (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 15, 2015)

Mirror (October 9) was the first to report that Remo D'Souza's Tiger Shroff starrer, A Flying Jatt will also feature Australian power-lifting champion and actor Nathan Jones, who was previously seen as the super villain Rictus Erectus in George Miller's actioner Mad Max: Fury Road. The 46-year-old actor landed in the city earlier this week and a Mirror photographer caught him in action with Shroff Jr.

"We started rehearsing our scenes on Tuesday, and Nathan turned out to be a really sweet person. He is a cute giant, hardworking and helpful," Tiger, Bollywood's newest superhero, says.

Nathan, who towers at seven feet and weighs 150 Kg, will be shooting for the film for next two months. "We start shooting in a few days and Remo sir has come up with some great action sequences. I am really excited," Tiger, who will shoot for his scenes with Jones in Mumbai in October, says, adding, "After that, Remo sir will be shooting outdoor scenes with Nathan while I will resume shooting for Baghi."

Nathan has booked into a five-star hotel in South Mumbai, with a 10-foot wide bed and a high ceiling. The hotel has agreed to customise one of their luxury suites to meet his needs. "Nathan is so different in terms of style and strength, it's going to be a visual treat for the audiences," exults Tiger, adding, "I can't reveal what and where we'll be shooting, but I am working hard. Since Nathan comes from a wrestling background and is very strong; I will be using all my martial arts skills to overcome him. It's going to be great fun."

Aamir Khan and Faisal Khan
Faissal Khan says he is scared to seek his star brother’s opinion on his upcoming film since he is a “perfectionist”
Anirban Das (MID-DAY; October 15, 2015)

When it comes to promoting his films or a friend’s project, Aamir Khan goes all out on social networking sites. However, not once has he spoken about brother Faisal Khan’s film, Chinar Daastaan-E-Ishq, which is set to release tomorrow.

While Faissal says his bhaijaan doesn’t have the time, he also admits he’s wary of seeking feedback. “I haven’t shown my film to Aamir. He is busy shooting for his next in Ludhiana, which is why he hasn’t said or written anything about my film. Besides, he is a perfectionist and I am not sure if he would like the film. In fact, even I feel that certain portions of the film could have turned out better. I don’t want to show the film to him; I know what his reaction will be,” adds the actor.

Is it weird though that an actor making a comeback after a decade isn’t confident of the project he is part of? “All I can say is that my team and I have given our best to make a good film. But since I have worked in films and theatre earlier, I understand that a few things are not up to the mark. The film is made on a shoestring budget and it won’t be fair to keep expecting the producers to shell out money till we are satisfied with the final product,” he explains.

Faissal, however, confesses he shares a good rapport with Aamir, who has offered him the post of script doctor in his production house.

I had to, plead, sulk and fight for one close-up in Mr India-Anil Kapoor

MAMI is organising a Mr India Reunion on October 31 as part of a Movie Mela; invisible man Anil Kapoor recalls the romance of 'Kaate Nahin Katate' and the menace of Mogambo
Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 15, 2015)

The 17th edition of MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, partnered by Mumbai Mirror will be introducing a first-of-its-kind destination event, Movie Mela, which celebrates the crazy movie fan. Scheduled for October 31, at Mehboob Studio, it salutes our passion for cinema which has, over the years, influenced Indian fashion, music, and even shaped our weddings.

The Jio MAMI Movie Mela promises to be the ultimate movie fan experience which India currently lacks and seeks to enhance our understanding of our cinema. The day-long festivities offer a master class with Rishi Kapoor, Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi talking about their collaboration, which has created a string of top grossers, food stalls and merchandise shops, figurines of characters we love and dubsmash zones and a Movie Mela. The highlight of the Mela is the Mr India Reunion which has the cast and crew take the audience on a journey through the making of one of India's best-loved films revolving around an invisible man.

Twenty-eight years later, Anil Kapoor remembers that he was treated like an invisible hero literally by the 'trimurti' of producer Boney Kapoor, director Shekhar Kapur and DOP Baba Azmi who were completely besotted with the film's heroine, Sridevi, who was the huge star then. "I was an established actor but it was Mr India, Tezaab, Eeshwar, Ram Lakhan, Karma and Parinda which made me the numero uno star. During the 'Kaate Nahin Katate' song shoot, I was treated like a junior artiste rather than the film's leading man who had to beg, plead, threaten, sulk and fight for one close-up, which would be taken at 4 am. The trio was obsessed with her and she was a pro, filming the rain song when she was burning with fever," Anil reminisces a quarter of a century later.

However, despite the "exploitation", his jacket, distinctive stubble and hat made him the quintessential Mr India. "I am called Lakhan, Jhakaas, Ae ji O ji, Munna and now Majnu bhai, but even today, I'm introduced as Mr India. Like all Indians, my character, Arun Verma, was humble, approachable, down-to-earth and will do anything for his country, and that forged a bond with the audience. There's a lot of me in Arun too," he admits.

Amrish Puri has become synonymous with Mogambo and his catchline, "Mogambo khush hua", become a patent dialogue of Hindi cinema. "I worked with four actors in the maximum films— Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri. With the latter, I did almost a dozen films. He was lovable and humble, and like me, hard-working and sincere. We were friends though he was years older," says Anil.

He also remembers the children, in particular 'shy, quiet boy' Aftab Shivdasani, who today surprises him by acting in sex comedies like the Masti series, and Rakesh Nath's son Karan, who is "so big and good looking' today.

Buzz is, Anil will turn up for the reunion in his Mr India suit. The actor admits that he hasn't made up his mind yet but it is possible that he might wear it. It still fits but, he admits, he might look a little stupid wearing such an outdated suit.

"We brought it out when the Mr India ride was being launched at Manmohan Shetty's amusement park, Imagica. Bijon Dasgupta, who was the production designer and art director of the film, suggested they get hold of the costume and believed that I might have it," says Anil. He did. It was lying at his home.

For over two decades we've been waiting for the sequel. Will Mr India 2 make an appearance in 2016? "We don't know if it will next year, but it will definitely come before we bid adieu to the world," he signs off.

Sonam Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez talk beauty, fashion and everything in between

Both have made waves in the fashion world with their sharp dressing style and fashion statements. Both are elegant, beautiful and poised. And lastly, both of them are besties. Sonam Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez are two of the leading names in Bollywood’s beauty circuit today. Why? While Sonam’s continuing her dream run as the brand ambassador for a range of L’Oreal products (it’s been seven years already), Jacqueline Fernandez became the face of Body Shop products only last year. And their brand journeys have been exciting ones.

There’s pressure to look good all the time
SK: I don’t think that’s completely true. I believe it’s not mandatory to look good, but a choice. I have always loved playing dress-up ever since I was a kid. I always wanted to look good and I at least tried even when I had nothing. Today, I have access to the best designers in the world. I can’t go wrong there.
JF: I think it’s important to look good off screen. And it goes for anyone because it feels great to feel good about yourself. That does take a little time and effort. I know how important it is to maintain myself on screen. But at the same time, I know that it’s important to do it off screen as well.

Hasn’t it become a necessity?
SK: That’s a choice every person makes for themselves. It’s an individual opinion. If you ask me, I would say I’m happy because the fashion police mostly says nice things about me!
JF: It’s like being able to not bring your work into your personal life. If it’s you, it’s great. But if it isn’t, you shouldn’t be thinking that I have to dress and look a certain way. Dress like yourself.

Interpreting style
SK: I think style is a personal expression of who you are. Maybe you are somebody who likes to be comfortable or someone who likes to be experimental. Some people like Indian and some people like organic stuff. It’s an expression of who you are.
JF: I feel it’s important to dress and style appropriately according to the climate of the place you are at, your mood or for the occasion. It’s more important to feel comfortable rather than do things just because that’s the trend and others are attempting it.

Beauty product I can’t live without...
SK: L’Oreal Paris Elnett. My grandmom, my mom and I use it.
JF: My lip balm.

My vanity case has...
SK: A lot of make-up and a lot of hair products. According to my make-up artist Namrata Soni, I can open a store.
JF: My daily routine has cleansing, toning and moisturising. I have lip balms, mascara and blush.

Make-up essentials
SK: Tinted moisturiser, a lipstick and a mascara. And a bit of blush.
JF: Blusher, tinted lip balms, mascara and eyelash curlers. Not much!

Secrets of great hair
SK: Genetics, number one. Secondly, the correct shampoo and conditioner to complement my genetics!
JF: On the days I’m working, I try to look after it as much as possible. On days that I’m off from shoots, I put some oil in my hair.

Hair spas or head massages?
SK: Actually, I go do this amazing hair spa at the salon. I go whenever I am free. I should be doing it once in 15 days but I don’t.
JF: I use a lot of beauty products like some really cool oils, especially coconut hair oil. It really helps me maintain my hair.

Afraid of ageing?
SK: Absolutely not. I think I have earned every line on my face. Unfortunately for me, I don’t look my age so nobody believes it. Is it a good thing? Because people keep telling me, ‘Oh you are like 22’. And I’m like ‘No’.
JF: Not at all. I am rather very excited about it (Laughs). It’s a fantastic process. You should be able to embrace it, have fun with it, see the best in it, see only the positives. At the end of the day, you can’t change it.

Best hair in the industry
SK: I think I do. I am not trying to be immodest about it but I do feel that I have the best hair.
JF: I think Sonam has the best hair in the industry. I really love her hair!

Katrina Kaif to replace Priyanka Chopra in SRK's 'Don 3'?
Gossip mills are abuzz with rumours about a change in casting for Don 3. We hear Katrina Kaif is in consideration to succeed Priyanka Chopra, who featured in the first two parts of the action flick as Shah Rukh Khan’s leading lady. If the makers manage to strike a deal with Kat, it will be her second outing with SRK after Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012).

An industry insider says, “The makers want a new face for the Don franchise and are in talks with Katrina. They feel she is one of the few actresses who can comfortably do high- octane action scenes.”

Both Katrina and Ritesh Sidhwani, producer of the Don franchise, did not respond to our text messages. On Tuesday evening, the latter had tweeted: “Much speculation on #Don3 & it’s Casting. No thoughts of changing it’s casting.. Working towards developing the script. Will keep u posted. Luv (sic).”

A source close to the production team, nevertheless, confirms the development, saying, “Yes, talks are on with Katrina for Don 3, but the makers want to keep it under wraps. Priyanka has her hands full at the moment and is unable to commit herself to the project. It has been four years since the release of Don 2 and things for the third part have to be finalised sooner rather than later. The script will be developed to introduce the new (Katrina’s) character.”

Enlarge ImageDhoom is India’s most famous franchise. Abhishek Bachchan has been the regular, while the villains have ranged from John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan to Aamir Khan. The collections as well as the actors have steadily become bigger and better. No wonder then, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan fans have been thirsting to see their screen idols mainlaining Dhoom 4. Now, Vijay Krishna Acharya aka Victor is all set to begin work on the fourth installment of the franchise, and it doesn’t star either of the Khans. This time, Dhoom may repeat one of its previous actors. Apparently, Hrithik will play the main antagonist again, as he had done in Dhoom 2. And Amitabh Bachchan joins the franchise for the first time. Whether Bachchan Sr and Bachchan Jr will have face-offs in the plot, is not known at the moment. Says a reliable source, “At the moment it is not very clear where Victor is going with this. All that is confirmed is that Aditya Chopra and Victor have approached and signed Mr Bachchan and Hrithik.” Meanwhile, another source says, “While Hrithik, Victor and Adi are coming together the film might not be Dhoom4. But another thriller.”

Shaandaar, marriage, Haider... the last year has been five years rolled into one-Shahid Kapoor

Meena Iyer (BOMBAY TIMES; October 15, 2015)

Minutes into our meeting, Shahid Kapoor agrees that marriage suits him. As the rain washes the garden outside his tastefully-done house, Sasha pours out cups of steaming hot tea and settles into his plush black leather lazy boy recliner. He talks about what has been a whirlwind but positive year for him, both personally and professionally.

Haider got you more than your fair share of awards.
Yes, I look at the last year and I feel it gave me much more than I ever expected. I took up Haider because I believed that it was a film that should be made. It gave me an amazing opportunity as an actor and it came from a man (Vishal Bhardwaj) who was giving me the best role of my career. The actor in me was just craving to do something challenging, rather than commercial. The problem with commercial is you go out there and do it and then it doesn't even work half the time. So what's the point? At least do something that excites you. There was a transition happening within me and Haider made me understand that process.

By your own admission, it has been a hectic year, right?
You are right. Not everything that has happened in the year has sunk in. So much has happened in the last one year, it suddenly seems like five years rolled into one. I feel overwhelmed. Whether it is Haider, the awards trail, getting married, the forthcoming release of Shaandaar or shooting for Udta Punjab, it has been a whirlwind of activity. You know when I was chalking my year at the start of 2015, I really didn't think it would pan out so beautifully. When I jotted down the things that would take up my year, it felt like a normal year. However, a little into the year it felt like a lot was going on. Like an access shift. It feels like I am going to shift into another zone. I'm still trying to understand what that zone is. Right now, I need to be able to do it in the smoothest and nicest possible way. I do not want to miss out on any detail of this change.

Shaandaar seems like a fun film...
Shaandaar is an exciting film. It has Alia (Bhatt) and me together for the first time. My father (Pankaj Kapur) and I have worked together earlier, but this is different. Shaandaar is Vikas Bahl's take on destination weddings, love and all kinds of madcap characters. He is a quirky filmmaker. Queen was a very good film. I had seen it six months before its release when he had shown me the first edit. Even when I saw that unfinished version, I felt Vikas was talented. Then we started talking about working on a film together. He narrated a couple of ideas and this was the idea that excited me. When we decided to do Shaandaar, Alia, Vikas and I were all trying to find ourselves. None of us were in the good career space that we are in today. Vikas hadn't had Queen, I hadn't had Haider and Alia hadn't had Highway. We all came together when none of us were 'hot stuff ', so to say. And then the next year was really amazing for all of us. Suddenly Shaandaar has generated a lot of curiosity because all of us are in it. I'm happy that we were making the film because we really liked what we were making and not because these people who had had a good year are coming together. Now it might seem like a project that we put out together because it is making news. But, right from the start, our intentions in making this movie were honest. Of course, we had a blast making it. The reactions have been very good. Right now, it is a week before the release and we have no perspective of what is happening. We are all happy with the reaction to the trailer and music. It looks like a big opportunity for all of us. I have not done a quirky love story for a really long time.

Have you been deliberately juggling genres?
You can say that. I have one opportunity at one genre at one time. After Haider I did Shaandaar, after that Udta Punjab and now Rangoon. All these films are so varied from each other, I only get a chance to get it right once in every genre. I'll not get another opportunity like Shaandaar for a year and a half. It's a conscious choice because I want to do different things as an actor. You know that is why choices become very critical for us actors.

Has the fact that you are now a married man sunk in?
Not really. Sometimes I'm still a little taken aback at the changes. Right now, where you and I are seated was my party room. As you can notice, the panels on the walls have multiple lights that come on when you are dancing; I have speakers all over the room to blast music from. And this was where my friends would chill out and hang out together. I would also do my dance rehearsals here. Now look at this place. It has new sofa sets and it has become the room where I conduct my meetings because the main house is the space that belongs to my wife Mira. (Laughs) it belongs to both of us but she is the lady of the house and I like to give her, her space.

The other day, my younger brother Ishaan called and said, 'Bro, I feel like dancing. Can I use your space downstairs?' and I said, 'You haven't seen that portion now. It has changed.' I sent him a picture of the place and he said, 'Are you serious bro? Is this what happens after marriage?' It's no longer a party place. He said, 'God, it has turned into a boring room. What do you do there?' I said I have meetings. I told him, this used to be 100% my property but I have managed to hold on to just 49%. The rest belongs to my wife (laughs uproariously). I'm proud of the fact that I have managed to hold onto 49%. I have a feeling that we will finally settle at 33%. If you look behind you, her shoes are lying around right behind where you are seated. She has already started eating into this space that is rightfully my space.

Frankly, I'm not complaining. I like indulging Mira. She has made my house into a home. It's so different from how life has been so far. I've been living alone for 10 years now. So, it is this huge change. The first day when I went to shoot after marriage, I wrapped up at 11.30 pm and was driving back in the car. And I was telling myself, 'You are going back to your wife.' I was trying to adjust to the fact that now I'm a married man. And I reached the house and entered through the back entrance that goes past the kitchen. She was making something for me and she turned around and had a huge smile on her face. She said, 'Baby, give me five minutes to get the food ready.' She likes cooking. She makes some yummy protein pancakes. I insist that she cooks me a meal at least once a week because she knows how to make the really cool stuff. Anyway, when I came that day, she gave me this big hug and I felt so happy that I came home after a hard day's work and we would be eating a meal together.

Go on...
It's such an amazing feeling as opposed to the feeling of coming home to an empty house. When you come to an empty house, you have to switch on the bedroom lights yourself and then press a bell and tell your domestic help, 'Yaar, khaana de de'.

People have coined this new term Shalia for Alia and you?
I hate these short forms but apparently they do well online because they are hashtagged. I've learnt how to use the online space well only in the last five years. Alia loves the term though. Speaking of her, she is sweet, full of energy and extremely talented. I get along famously with her. She is a terrific co-star. She hyperventilates about everything. However, she is enthusiastic, candid, normal and refreshing. We hang around together when we have the time.

One read that Saif (Ali Khan), Kareena, Mira and you work out together. Is this right?
The news is partially correct. I work out in the same gym as Saif and Kareena. I have met them there. However, Mira doesn't go to that gym. The four of us haven't met. So, I'm wondering how that news started doing the rounds.

Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone have a hot, intense kissing scene in Tamasha?

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 15, 2015)

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone are all set to steam up the screen in their upcoming love story, the Sajid Nadiadwala-produced and Imtiaz Ali-directed Tamasha. Mirror has learnt that for the first time, the couple has a passionate love-making scene in the film which includes a lip-to-lip kiss.

According to a source close to the production, the film revolves around two young people who meet as strangers in Corsica and hit it off immediately. They are on a break from mundane everyday reality and playfully decide that their lives on the French island will be nothing but a pack of lies and go around impersonating the characters they have been fascinated with, from Dev Anand to Don and Mona Darling.

"But somewhere along the way, they fall in love. The play-acting stops and feelings become real. The kiss between them is not very long in terms of screen time, but it's hot and intense and very different from the intimate kiss they shared in Bachna Ae Haseeno," adds the source.

The two actors were in a relationship for two years, from 2008 to 2010, and after their break-up, surprised everyone by partnering in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, three years later. Ranbir tried to play down their on-screen romance by pointing out that they approached their roles like two actors and because of the technicalities involved, the intimate scenes were no different from the action scenes. However, he did admit, that it was easier for them because they knew each other well.

Deepika in an interview reasoned that chemistry is intangible, you either have it or you don't. It cannot be created and Ranbir and she were fortunate that they had it.

The source insists that the chemistry between them sizzles in Tamasha. Deepika had earlier pointed out (Mirror, June 1) that while she had worked with Imtiaz and Ranbir individually, in Love Aaj Kal, Bachna Ae Haseeno and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, it was a dream for her to make a movie with them together. When the opportunity presented itself, both actors did what was required in the script professionally, without any 'tamasha'.

Shah Rukh Khan turns 50 this year. There is a huge media blitz at his house every November 2. This time the celebrations will be extra special. And the superstar and his team have a special surprise in store for all his fans.

What is it? Namrata Rao, the National Award-winning editor, who’s also editing SRK’s Fan spills the beans. “We received a great response to our teaser and the next promo, a second teaser is being readied now.” Revealing details of the second teaser she adds, “The first teaser only showed that Shah Rukh plays two characters — one of a superstar and the other of a fan. The second teaser will give you an idea of what the film is about.”

A source reveals, “The second teaser of Fan will be unveiled on SRK’s birthday. Fan is a very special film for Shah Rukh and that’s why he’s decided the launch the second teaser himself on his 50th birthday.” Ask Namrata about the same and she just smiles and says “wait and watch”.

WILL PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA 2 BE AS GOOD OR BETTER AS THE PREQUEL?

Pyaar Ka Punchnama was one of the biggest surprises of 2011. It starred newcomers and didn’t make any noise when it was being shot. But it all changed once the trailer was out. And it got a lot more attention when it was released. The film was rooted in realism and touched the chord of every youngster. Kartik Aaryan’s monologue on men’s problems became an instant craze. Hence, when the makers announced the plan to make a sequel, moviegoers were obviously overjoyed.

However, a tense situation was born when the first look of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 was out. Viewers realized that Divyendu Sharma and Raayo S Bakhirta, who starred in part 1, are not a part of the sequel and this led to lot of outrage on social media websites. After all, both Divyendu and Raayo played a huge part in the prequel’s success. Divyendu’s Liquid act especially was loved a lot. However, everyone cooled down once the trailer of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 was unveiled. It was hilarious and the two new guys – Omkar Kapoor and Sunny Singh – seem to have done a good job. Incidentally, the heroines are the same from the first part – Nushrat Bharucha, Ishita Raj and Sonnalli Seygall. Songs haven’t made an impact but no worries since the film already has created buzz as it’s a sequel of a very popular film. And with the promo of part 2 being so great, half the battle was won.

Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 moreover has no competition. The half a dozen films releasing tomorrow serve no threat. Last week’s Jazbaa hasn’t become a huge hit. Hence, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 can have a decent opening and can turn out to be a huge success, if it’s well made. Its run might be thwarted by the release of biggie Shaandaar next week. But if opening is good, then it won’t be much of a problem. Recently, even Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon was able to sail through despite facing tough competition from Singh Is Bliing in its Week 2 since the opening was so huge.

Love stories are always complicated - this is the universal sentiment echoed by people who have been in relationships. Girish Kumar and Navneet Dhillon (Miss India World 2013) portray the intricacies of contemporary romance in their forthcoming film Loveshhuda.

After garnering praise for his debut film, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Girish will once again be seen in a refreshing avatar. Joining him is the gorgeous Navneet who makes her foray into Bollywood. Helmed by Vaibhav Misra, the film revolves around two people who meet in three different places - London, Mauritius and Shimla - at three different times of their lives. They fall in love with each other despite the time and distance, but complications arise. The makers believe that today's youth will connect to the dilemmas faced by the couple in this story.

Pleased with the way the movie has shaped up, producer Vijay Galani says, “We have focussed on telling a love story that suits the present times and the risks that today's generation takes. With Tips Industries Ltd backing us, we're optimistic that Loveshhuda will work.“ Vaibhav adds, “Girish and Navneet lend themselves perfectly to their contemporary roles in this romantic drama.“

The film has five tracks, penned by Sayeed Quadri. The first song, Mar Jaayen, composed by Mithoon and rendered by Atif Aslam, is out now. Parichay has created the music for the other four numbers that have been sung by Vishal Dadlani, Arijit Singh, Mika Singh, Neha Kakkar, Teesha Nigam and Atif. Kumar Taurani of Tips sums up, “We're excited about the music of Loveshhuda. It's a winning soundtrack with a contemporary flavour and we can't wait to take it to our audiences.“

Loveshhuda releases January 15, 2016.

BOMBAY TIMES (October 16, 2015)

Khushali Kumar makes her screen debut in the music video Mainu Ishq Da Lagya Rog, released by T-series. The track, which first appeared in the 1991 film Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, has been recreated by composer-singer Arko Pravo Mukherjee and sung by her sister Tulsi Kumar. It took Khushali four months to create the right look for the video that depicts the many shades of love. For her, the challenge was to perfect her moves on cam era and she worked hard to get it right. The toughest scene was when she had to sit on a hand-carved jharoka (a palace window). She was so engrossed in her scene that she couldn't come out of her character and continued to weep even after the director had called cut. Khushali admits that she couldn't respond because the song is like an emotional trigger. She adds, “I hope the audience connects with the song and feels the beautiful expression of love, as much as we all felt it while shooting.“

Sunanya Suresh (BOMBAY TIMES; October 16, 2015)

After catching the recently released film Talvar, Bengaluru-based Anand Gautam, associate vice president in a food startup, was initially taken aback with disbelief that there could be another side to the Talwar double murder case. This prompted him to dig up all relevant information on the case, including the final verdict. After spotting what he terms 'some key happenings' that he couldn't digest, he started an online petition, which got 17,000 signatures in less than a week.

“I was baffled that such a thing could happen. There clearly was another side to the verdict that has been sidelined and not given due focus. I wondered how to voice my concerns. That is when I realised that an e-petition could help, because I've seen some effective ones before and even signed them. I decided to put together a concise detail of the points that I found different to help people think about it. I've also added links to more detailed stories in the petition,“ says Anand, adding that he was surprised many others thought like him and supported the petition. He continues, “There was a news report stating that the President of India has evinced interest to watch the film. I plan on adding his name to the list of people I've addressed the petition to, which, as of now, is only to the Chief Justice of India. I'm also glad that the petition has gained momentum and that celebrities like director Ken Ghosh and actress Sandhya Mridul, among others, have also voiced their support and shared the URL online.“

Apart from Anand's petition, there are two other petitions on Change.org that are direct results of watching Talvar. One of them asks for the Talwar double murder case to be reopened, while the other questions whether the CBI should clear the air about the rumours.

When asked if there were other films that have sparked off such petitions online, Preethi Herman, Country Lead, Change.org India, says, “There have been instances in the past when people started petitions based on feature films and documentaries. The website's users responded to the documentary India's Daughter and the AIB Roast with massive signature campaigns. However, in the feature film category, the Talvar petition has been one of the most viral one and is growing fast.“

Ajit is Abhay Deol's father. Family sources say that Sunny has always been very close to his uncle. In fact, even when his uncle had been diagnosed with a heart condition earlier, it was Sunny who kept vigil at the hospital. Vidya Balan to do cameo in Amitabh Bachchan-Nawazuddin Siddiqui's TE3N

Roshmila Bhattacharya (MUMBAI MIRROR; October 16, 2015)

It's not easy getting the nod from Vidya Balan. The actress has turned down 10 biopics, including those revolving around Meena Kumari, India's first cardiologist Rakhma Bai, former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, super cop Kiran Bedi and Bengal's Greta Garbo, Suchitra Sen. But she has agreed to play yesteryear actress Geeta Bali in a special appearance in the Marathi film, Ek Albela. Now, Mirror has learnt that Vidya recently committed to a Hindi film, TE3N, directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. Once again, it is a special appearance.

The thriller also features Amitabh Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It rolls in November and will be shot entirely in Kolkata.

Sujoy Ghosh, the creative producer, who has been involved with the project since its inception, reveals that it originated from Bachchan. "One day, we were chatting with sir and Ribhu sketched out the idea to him. He reacted instantly saying he was doing the film. When we told him we didn't even have a script, he instructed us to write one. He agreed to the film on the basis of just a thought," reminisces Sujoy.

They then approached Nawaz, who like Bachchan, is equally fond of Ribhu. He liked the riveting script and the many-layered character he was offered. Bachchan and he are the main leads and have author-backed roles. Buzz is, he's playing a boxer but Sujoy laughs off the rumour, saying, "No, that's not true. When you find out who he is, you'll be shocked. That's the suspense."

After roping in the two brilliant actors, the makers realised that they needed someone who can match up to them. "We were on tenterhooks wondering if it would be a "yes" or "no," but fortunately for us, Vidya was challenged by this special appearance pivotal to the plot and was quickly won over. This is the first time the three actors will be seen together in a film and it's an exciting casting," says Sujoy, who worked with the actress in Kahaani three years ago, but asserts that this film has "zero connection" with the 2012 thriller.

And why the connect with Kolkata? "The City of Joy is close to our hearts and we need any excuse to go back there. But you can't forcibly set a film in Kolkata. Fortunately, TE3N fits in because these three people are local inhabitants. We are hoping to wrap up the shooting by early January and target a mid-2016 release," he signs off.
