PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO UNDERPERFORMS; WILL DILWALE-BM BRING CHEER?
The Diwali release Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had a record breaking opening. But later, the film kept falling, a clear indication that it has not really touched viewers’ hearts like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Khan’s last release. The makers would like us to believe that the film is doing very, very well but that’s not the reality. When a film doesn’t pick up on Sunday despite a huge first day, it’s a matter of concern. Thankfully, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo stabilized during the weekdays. It remains to be seen how it fares in the second weekend. If it can sustain a bit in Week 2, even then it’ll be great.
With Prem Ratan Dhan Payo underperforming, it remains to be seen if the final 2 biggies of the year – Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani– are able to leave a huge mark. There’s Tamasha as well but I am not counting it as the former 2 films are releasing during the very profitable Christmas-New Year’s time. These 2 films HAVE to make a mark so that 2015 can end on a somewhat good note. On the flipside, both films are releasing on the same day. This can prove detrimental as both can eat into each other’s business. However, Dec end is a great time of the year. Hence, one never knows. Here’s hoping both these films entertain audiences and also bring cheer at the box office!
