Richa Chadha gives us a glimpse into her Cannes diaries...

This year marks Richa Chadha's third visit to the Cannes. The quirky actress is in the French Riviera to promote her upcoming film Sarbjit. We spoke to her before she left for the film festival about the 'fashion rebellion' and 'gender equality' that has gripped its red carpet this year. Actresses Julia Roberts and Kristen Stewart broke the supposed dress code by slipping out of their stilettos - while Roberts walked the red carpet barefoot, Stewart wore flat footwear for a screening.
Speaking about this, Richa agreed to the need for change. She stated, “People should be able to wear whatever they like... heels, flats, socks, no footwear, but I am not aware of this being a strict rule.“
Agreeing to Helena Bonham Carter's take on how the fashion industry can burden actresses with its norms, she added, “Earlier I would feel pressurised to look good, but not anymore. I don't do any special preparation before the event as I work out and diet throughout the year.“
Reminiscing about her fond memories of Cannes and things she likes to do there, the actress revealed that partying hard and letting her hair down with her friends is the best part of her visit. “I love to party there. A few nightclubs are my favourite. I make friends with the bartenders and hand over my high heels and valuables to them and dance the night away. You cannot possibly wear heels for more than eight hours and dance in them.“ Ask her why one doesn't see her partying in Mumbai as much, and she quickly replies, “Where is the place to get on top of the table and dance here? There are people everywhere waiting to clicking pictures on their phones. Also, like me, if you stay in Andheri, you end up becoming 'kue ka mendak' as all filmi events happen in and around that area. So, Cannes is a welcome change and a good break from the Mumbai heat.“
Live it up gal, with a lot of good cinema, croissants, club-hopping and some fine champagne, of course.
