Filmmaker Omung Kumar's Sarbjit, based on an Indian farmer's life by the same name who was imprisoned in a Pakistan jail after he was accused of being a spy, is set to premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 15. The heartwrenching biopic, which traces his sister Dalbir Kaur's 23-year-old struggle for his freedom, features Randeep Hooda, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Richa Chadha and Darshan Kumar.
Aishwarya, who has been a popular face at the festival for the last 15 years, will walk the red carpet tomorrow with Omung and producers Bhushan Kumar, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh and Sandeep Singh. Omung, who is eagerly looking forward to the big night, says, “Sarbjit is a story which needs to be told and Cannes is an esteemed platform to showcase it due to its varied audience. We are going to premiere the film and hope to get a positive response from international viewers.“
Sarbjit releases worldwide on May 20.
