Nil Battey Sannata is a small little gem with a big heart. The film tells a relatable story in a simplistic and charming manner and no wonder that it has appealed so well to the audiences everywhere. The film is produced and not directed by Aanand L Rai but it beautifully captures the small town feel and essence the way Rai has done in the past with Raanjhanaa and Tanu Weds Manu series. On the flipside, the film could have been a bit more convincing, especially the character of Amar (Vishal Nath) among other things. It was difficult to imagine someone so young as him giving out gyaan every now and then. It is also bewildering to see just everyone in the town knowing Ratna Pathak Shah so well. Performance wise, Swara Bhaskar as expected is just terrific and it's heartening to see that she got a leading role in such a nice film. Riya Shukla understands her part well and does very well. Ratna Pathak Shah is adorable. Sanjay Suri's cameo will surely put a smile on one's face. Pankaj Tripathi is the scene stealer! Do give this film a try in theatres!

My rating - **** out of 5!
