Kapil Sharma's decision to end Comedy Nights With Kapil over some differences with the channel became a hot topic of discussion among the TV fraternity. Now, he will be seen on another channel with The Kapil Sharma Show. The comedian and his team shot the first episode recently. Excerpts from a chat:

WE NEED TO LEARN TO LAUGH ABOUT SERIOUS ISSUES
Kiku's arrest for mimicking the Dera Sacha Sauda chief had elicited strong reactions from comedians, who had said that it's a threat to their creative freedom. So, is there more caution now when they write jokes? “The Kiku incident didn't happen on our show. Hum apne content ka dhyaan rakhte hain. Lekin agar aap kisi ki dhaarmik bhawnaon ko thhes pahunchate ho toh woh hona nahin chahiye. Main 8-9 saal se comedy kar raha hoon, aaj tak toh aisa hua nahin. Jaise yeh intolerance ki baat hai... mujhe yeh lagta hai ki humne hi intolerance word ko bada bana diya hai,“ he said.

POLITICIANS ARE MOST WELCOME ON MY SHOW
Talking about writing political jokes, he added, “Jaise Shekhar Suman ka interest hoga politics mein isliye unke jokes politics par hote thay. Mujhe yeh sab samajh hi nahin aata. Mujhe abhi tak nahin pata ki JNU mein exactly hua kya tha. We exercise control. I think that we take our life very seriously. Hansi aur positivity ke saath raho. Chaar din ki zindagi hai. Yahaan tak pahunchte pahunchte 34 saal ke ho gaye. A lot of people ask me why I want to invite our PM Narendra Modi on my show. US President Barack Obama went to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Hansi mazaak kiya aur chale gaye. Khud hi maan liya hai ki hum politician hain aur hum bahut serious hain, aur hum artiste hain toh hum bahut witty hain. Politicians are most welcome on my show.“

I WILL NEVER DO A DAILY SOAP
He said, “I am a stage artiste and I enjoy live events. Comedy is one thing in which you get immediate reaction. That's why I have never done a daily soap. I have been offered many, and that too strange characters. Main toh sunta bhi nahin kyunki mujhe daily soaps karne hi nahin hain.“

WILL NEVER QUIT TV
Despite his debut film's success, Kapil said he has no plans of quitting television. “TV is a medium where you can reach out to the maximum number of people. Woh jo Mumbai mein signal par ladkiyan pencil bechti hain, woh bhi mujhe pehchaanti hain. Maine unse poocha toh they said, 'hum aapka show dekhte hain'. I want to continue working on TV lekin waise bhi nahin ki aath saal ho gaye hain aur behosh ho rahe hain set par. Woh news aati hai na ki ladki behosh ho gayi 25 kilo ki ladki 35 kilo ki sari pehen leti hai.“

HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH SHILPA SHINDE AND HER TIFF
There were reports that Kapil's team had approached Shilpa Shinde for their show and that it was because of his show that she quit Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain. “Mera naam kyun daalte ho yaar? Jab Kiku arrest hua tha, tab tha ki Kapil ki Palak jail gayi. Agar Sumona ki shaadi ki news aati hai toh bola jaata hai ki Kapil ki biwi ki shaadi ho rahi hai. The casting team had approached her (Shilpa). She had an ongoing dispute with her channel and we asked her, 'Agar aap free hain toh hamaara show join kar lijiye'. Baad mein producers' association se baat huyi and they said that it shouldn't be done.“
