In Bollywood, filmi legacy passes on, not friendships

BOMBAY TIMES (February 23, 2016)

It is interesting to see how equations in Bollywood families change over generations. Sometimes the dosti, yaari spills over to the rest of the kin. At times, the love stays locked between a few. For instance, Rakesh Roshan's best buddy is Jeetendra. These two actors watch movies, go on vacations and even hit the gym together. And when they are in Mumbai, they meet daily for hours, at one of Jeetendra's many residences. But interestingly, their age-old dosti didn't translate into a friendship between their sons - Hrithik and Tusshar. The only time the young actors meet is during family functions. Instead, Tusshar, as we have told you earlier, has a better equation with Abhishek Bachchan. The two went to the same school and have known each other since childhood.

Rishi Kapoor is close to Jeetu and Guddu (Rakesh Roshan). However, Ranbir and Hrithik share a professional rapport, and nothing beyond that. A source says, “There's an age difference here. Ranbir is almost nine years younger than Hrithik, and their paths have not crossed too often.“

Abhishek is actually a very popular guy, and quite loved too. In recent months, Hrithik and he have also grown close, though their dads have never really been friends, other than exchanging pleasantries at filmi functions. Abhishek Bachchan and Duggu (Hrithik) have common friends like Goldie Behl and Kunal Kapoor (who is married to Abhishek's cousin). Even the ladies - Sonali Bendre, Naina and Shweta Bachchan Nanda - are part of the same circle.

Well, our B-town's younger generation has definitely inherited their family's filmi legacy, but not their relationships. In matters of the heart, it's always a different story, right?
