WELCOME BACK has done well in its first week grossing 73.75 crore nett. The film has seen drops on the weekdays which are a bit higher than normal but the daily numbers remained good as it was coming off high levels. The first week collections are the second highest of the year after BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN and it beat ABCD 2 and TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS which are third and fourth respectively.
The first week collections are also the highest ever for a comedy film. The previous best was the 2011 Salman khan starrer READY at 69 crore nett which coincidentally was from the same director.
The lifetime business will depend on what happens in the second weekend. The 100 crore nett figure looked a certainty on Monday but the drops afterwards has made it depend on the second weekend. There has not been a major comedy success for a long time with most comedy films struggling to make a mark. Before WELCOME BACK, the last comedy success was GRAND MASTI two years back.
