Two sex comedies releasing within a week of each other is unheard of. More so, when both star Tusshar Kapoor. Two back-to-back releases featuring the same actor is something even a top actor wouldn’t attempt.
While Mastizaade announced its date (January 29) last month, just last week Ekta Kapoor decided to release Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 on January 22. While Tusshar Kapoor is the main attraction of KKHH3, which also stars Aftab Shivdasani and Bigg Boss 9 contestant Mandana Karimi, Mastizaade’s big draw is Sunny Leone with three heroes — Riteish Deshmukh, Vir Das and Tusshar. While Tusshar will have two releases in January, he might not have a release for the rest of the year because he hasn’t even started shooting for his next film Chicago Junction.
Tusshar says he was stunned when he heard that his home production was releasing so close to Mastizaade. “It will hurt the box-office prospects of the film which comes second as both are adult comedies. It was disturbing for me when the announcement was made. But having said that, I would like to mention that, this is KKHH3’s first announcement. Mastizaade announced a few dates earlier and later changed them. They were to release last October, then on December 4.”
Mastizaade shifted from December 4 to January 29 . Tusshar adds, “I don’t know what happened behind the scenes… As an actor, I don’t have a choice. I will promote whichever film is ready, prepared and definitely going to release. Not just me, any actor would do it like that. I think the distributors, market and film industry should decide which film should come and when. It should be a move for the betterment of all.”
Tusshar says he is very clear that though it’s his sister’s production too, he will support whichever film that has its house in order. “I won’t play favourites. I am an actor I will only promote one film at a time. The offer for Mastizaade came first and I finished it first. I didn’t start KKHH3 till I completed it. KKHH3 didn’t get it cleared from the Censor Board till Mastizaade was cleared. At this juncture I will promote and give my heart and soul to that film which is organised and comes first. I hope that the other will come at a time well-spaced out so everyone can breathe happily. I don’t think the market will allow two films of the same genre to release within a week of each other. I am having a release after three years (Bajaatey Raho) and can’t be having two films releasing together. After this the only film I have committed to is Kabir Kaushik’s Chicago Junction.”
